Ethan Cohen
Ethan Cohen is a gallerist, art advisor, certified appraiser, and curator with over 35 years of experience. He is also the co-founder of 54 Projects LLC, and head of acquisitions for 54 Art Fund.
From the very beginning Ethan Cohen Gallery has represented a pioneering blend of both emerging and internationally renowned artists. Many of the emerging artists have become household names. Mr. Cohen has steered the gallery to occupy a distinct place in contemporary art as a center of innovation across disciplines and countries. His gallery serves artists and clientele through curatorial projects with top institutions, global art fairs, and as a center for seminal cultural events. Today Ethan Cohen Gallery has two gallery locations, one in Chelsea in the heart of New York City and the other in Beacon, New York.
Ethan Cohen first founded his gallery in 1987 as Art Waves/Ethan Cohen in SoHo, New York City. A groundbreaker in the field of contemporary Chinese art, Ethan Cohen was the first gallerist to present the Chinese Avant-Garde of the 1980s to an American audience. He introduced the works of now celebrated artists such as Ai Weiwei, Gu Dexin, Xu Bing, Gu Wenda, Zhang Huan, Qin Feng, Lan Zhenghui, Wang Keping, Qiu Zhijie, Sun Yuan and Peng Yu.
Ethan Cohen Gallery today represents a diverse global mix of contemporary and post-war contemporary art.
